Are you called to identity work?
- Do you believe great client relationships aren’t maintained, but led?
- Do you love the moment when confusion turns into clarity, and clarity turns into momentum?
- Can you hold truth and warmth at the same time, protecting the work, the people doing it, and the client’s outcomes?
- Do you have the maturity to lead CEOs and leadership teams without gimmicks or pressure, instead modeling discipline, candor, and trust?
If that sounds like you, keep reading.
McKee Wallwork is growing. And growth demands a new kind of account leadership.
We’re looking for a Marketing Account Director to own executive-level client relationships and commercial stewardship across key accounts, so our work stays well-scoped, well-led, and deeply effective.
This is not “account service as babysitting.” This is a leadership seat responsible for the health of our client relationships, retention, and expansion, all grounded in clarity, integrity, and outcomes.
Your mission
Lead and steward a portfolio of key client relationships, ensuring trust, clarity, and commercial discipline, so clients renew, expand, and achieve outcomes without chaos, scope creep, or misalignment.
The challenge
You will be asked to do what many firms avoid:
- Lead relationships like a steward, not a pleaser: earn trust with clarity, courage, and consistency.
- Bring order to ambiguity: align stakeholders and define success.
- Protect the work: catch misalignment early, prevent scope creep, and defend delivery teams from “sold into chaos.”
- Hold the line with grace: speak hard truths, reset expectations, and still preserve goodwill.
- Drive growth without becoming transactional: expansions are earned through outcomes, not pressure.
If you want comfort, this won’t be it.
If you want meaning, responsibility, and a place to build something real, welcome home.
What you’re responsible for
You are responsible for leading the Account Direction function for a portfolio of clients, including:
Executive relationship leadership
- Own executive-level relationships and stakeholder alignment across accounts
- Lead “truth moments” when expectations drift or risk emerges
- Build durable trust through calm, clear, direct communication
Commercial stewardship (retention + profitable growth)
- Drive renewals, expansions, and long-term client value
- Maintain commercial clarity: budgets, priorities, tradeoffs, and decision paths
- Protect margin through disciplined scoping and proactive change management
Scope integrity + project health
- Ensure scopes, success metrics, and deliverables stay clear throughout delivery
- Identify risk early (misalignment, scope creep, weak sponsorship, unclear decisions) and fix it fast
- Partner with delivery leaders to keep work outcome-focused and teams set up to win
Internal leadership + coordination
- Create clean handoffs and ongoing coordination with Operations and delivery teams
- Serve as the voice of the client internally with accuracy, not emotion
- Improve account systems and standards so the firm scales without chaos
What you have authority to do
You have authority to:
- Build a team and function
- Lead client expectation-setting and relationship strategy for your accounts
- Approve and enforce account management standards (cadences, QBRs, escalation paths)
- Negotiate renewals and expansions within agreed pricing and margin guardrails
- Approve scopes, SOWs, and change orders within guardrails
- Escalate issues and drive cross-functional alignment when outcomes are at risk
Traits that stand out
- You bring order to complexity, and you don’t need applause to do it
- You can say “no” to unreasonable asks and still preserve trust
- You don’t “keep clients happy.” You lead clients toward outcomes
- You’re allergic to vague scopes, fuzzy success metrics, and wishful thinking
- You treat trust like a sacred asset, and you protect it with truth
Minimum requirements
- 8+ years experience in account leadership / client services / consulting or professional services
- Demonstrated ownership of executive client relationships and multi-stakeholder dynamics
- Strong competence in scoping, pricing collaboration, proposals/SOWs, and change orders
- Proven ability to manage renewals and expansions while protecting quality and margin
- Comfort partnering tightly with Operations/delivery teams in a high-standards environment
Bonus if you have led accounts that include both consultative strategy and executional work and you’ve navigated the “strategy-to-delivery” bridge without losing trust or scope integrity.
