The Advantage

By Patrick Lencioni
The Advantage book, full front cover
Who should read this book:

This is a great read for those who want to simply get a sense of their organization’s internal dynamics as well as those who are willing to take a deep dive (as we did) into what’s working, what’s not, and how to set a healthy cultural course for the future.

There’s a reason we believe people are our most valuable assets. Well, there are many reasons, but a big one is because investing in them and how they work together is the cornerstone of our business. Strategy, finance, marketing, technology—these are all critical elements. But without organizational health, they will crumble. As author Patrick Lencioni writes, “More than a side dish or a flavor enhancer for the real meat and potatoes of business, it is the very plate on which the meat and potatoes sit.”

As you’ll read in this book, strengthening your company’s organizational health – your leadership team, your approach to meetings, communication, internal alignment, and employee engagement – means digging in a little deeper: getting your people (yourself included) to be vulnerable, learning how to embrace conflict, and tapping into the entire well of your staff’s knowledge and skill sets. Lencioni, a renowned management consulting specialist and best-selling author, provides a step-by-step checklist on how to achieve organizational health and illustrates each with examples from his own experiences.

You could say MW’s principles are kindred spirits with the principles in The Advantage. And because of it, we have healthier dynamics, healthier employees, and a much healthier business.
